Autumn is here…

Sorry it’s been a while since my last post.

Quite a lot going on here…

  • Visited Croatia and saw lots of wildlife and will do a separate blog about that.
  • Have done a few countryside walks recently and lots of autumn colour and fruit around.
  • The weather has alternated between feeling like it is still summer and going out in a T-shirt and going back to wearing fleeces again. I hope the summer lasts a bit longer.

There are still several plants flowering in the garden although the number of insects seems to have dropped off now. I haven’t seen many bees recently but the birds are back again although not making much use of the feeders at the moment.

This rather insignificant looking little white flower is highly scented, so much so that you can smell it just by walking past the plant. It provides late autumn nectar for bees and it makes a great hedge to help nesting birds.

Spiders

Saw a long legged spider hiding in a hydrangea the other day. Not sure which variety or what it is waiting for… spider on hydrangea

Mushrooms

mushrooms
not sure which mushrooms these are but there are lots of them!

Lots of mushrooms appearing now. From tiny little fairy mushrooms to bigger ones around 10cm across.

I’ve done some organised mushroom walks before which are a great idea as you learn which ones are edible and which should be avoided.

Kent County Council have arranged a walk at the end of October. It’s on 31 October at Shipbourne and is free to attend.  I typed in ‘mushroom walk kent’ to find this one so try putting something in for your location and see what comes up.

What is happening in your garden now?
