Ecobuild 2014
I visited Ecobuild last week and spent the majority of the time in the Biodiversity pavilion area. Lots of interesting stands.
I will write about some of them in more detail later but wanted to give you details of the exhibitors here as there are some fascinating new inventions on display here.
People are becoming more interested in being green and there are lots of ways you can help wildlife.
Although the concept of green roofs and living walls have been around for a while, it is great to see how they have developed. Green roofs used to be purely sedums which, although they are bee friendly, have a limited flowering period. I saw a couple of stands doing wildflower versions with British native plants such as thrift (commonly seen on cliffs), and ox-eye daisy, wild carrot, marjoram and campion.
Wildflower Turf from Hampshire specialise in providing turf which is pre planted with your choice of wild flowers. For anyone who saw the 2012 Olympics in London, they supplied the wildflower turf for Danny Boyle’s Glastonbury Tor. The turf can go onto a roof or be part of a garden or public space.
Another company, British Flora, also create biodiverse roofs and you can choose which plants you would you would like. How about poppies, cornflowers, scabious, cowslips, thyme or wild basil?
What plants or seeds can you put into your garden that will help wildlife? Or do you have a garden full of wildlife friendly plants already? Please let me know in the comments below.
